New players entering tournaments?

Competitive

What are your thoughts on a new / non-legend (yet!) player entering an open tournament like DreamHack Grand Prix? Have there been any "unknown" players that ended up doing relatively well in past tournaments?

Can you hit Rank 5?

If you can, do it. I know some guys who did quite well at Dreamhack Montreal even though they were "nobodies" in the grand scheme of things.

I won my first tournament before I got legend. But it was some crummy online thing. Doubt there’s much point entering DHGP if you can’t get legend though.

Grats on winning that tournament, regardless of what it was!
I just started trying for legend last month and only got to 12 (with f2p cards). Just bought my first packs this weekend and am revamping/dusting to build the decks I want. I was going to DH anyways, so I thought it'd be fun to give is a try!

Couldn't hurt as long as you don't take things too seriously. Just remember you need to bring 4 decks?(not sure on the number) as long as you aren't in it to win it and doing it for the experience and to have fun. Winning a tournament like that with a small collection will be very hard and you might just get knocked out round one.

It's a swiss tournament... you never actually get knocked out until the end of Swiss.

You can be out of contention for top spots but even that isn't determined until usually round 3

Depends on your collection, entering a tournament with 4 budget is pretty much pointless
