Firefox English Spellcheck Broken; Ignores language settings

Solved

Hi all, I've recently switched back to FF after using Chrome for years but spellcheck seems to be broken.

I have removed en-us from my languages and added en-ca and en-gb, but it still checks all spelling as en-us. How can I fix it so it checks spelling with specified English?

I'm on macOS latest and FF latest. Also, my system languages are set to en-ca (primary), en-gb, fr-ca, zh-cn -- so at NO point should FF ever be offering American spelling corrections.

How can I fix this? Why doesn't FF respect the system language settings?

Firefox is a language specific binary. You need to download the en-GB build to get en-GB spelling. https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/

Wow, that's bad. Why doesn't the website offer you the language you speak when you download FF? And there is no en-CA? That alone will make me look for alternatives. It is utterly insulting and a fine example of neo-colonialism to give Canadians en-US; it should default to en-GB at least as it's closer. I really really wanted FF to work out, it's goals and everything are praise-worthy, but ignoring the system and user's language is a terrible experience. I came back to FF because of the new container feature -- I have to run at least 3 profiles in Chrome. The new container feature is not as good as Chrome "people" but it a great step in the right direction (just really wish you could set one container per window).

Sorry I'm negative here. I really appreciate your answer. I'm just disappointed. I really want to de-Google my life for obvious reasons; but my browser is a key part of my workflow and there just doesn't seem to be an alternative to Chrome. Hopefully one day Mozilla can turn it around. Please keep up the good work.

It should provide Firefox for your locale. I don't know why it did not for you. en-CA is not a locale because there is not a community that wants to work on it. https://wiki.mozilla.org/L10n:Starting_a_localization and https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=551156
