An Inconvenient Truth
Since I was a child
I've been told
That I could be whatever
I wanted to be
"If you can believe it
You can achieve it."
But what do you do
When you want anything
But to be you?
What happens then?
What are your options
When that dawning realization
Sinks in
As you figure out that
Elusive Question
That haunts philosophers
And you realize
You didn't want to know
The answer.
What do you do then?
What can you do
Except try to convince yourself
That you're wrong?
That the truth you've discovered,
The truth that you dare not
Tell anyone,
The truth you suppress
Until you crack,
The truth that makes you
Shut off the lights and
Weep into your pillow and
Pray to the Blessed Virgin that
Nobody can hear you
Lest they ask questions
And force you to tell
An inconvenient truth
What do you do then?
When you find the answer
To the big question:
Who am I?
Almost Forgot:
