Did the movie "The dark tower" ruined the experience?

I have read several SK books but never touched the dark tower because I felt it was massive, but I recently saw the new film and read that it was horrible in comparison with the books so im asking the true fans of the dark tower series:

Does the movie already spoiled the whole story?

How many books are filled on the movie?

I’m in a similar situation to you. However, I have started reading TDT series quite recently and have only read the first 2 books.

I did not recognise the movie from the book (based only on the 2 books I have read and whatever piece of DT nugget of information I knew). I felt like the movie could have dropped the Stephen King name, all references and names from the books and you would have a generic film about a boy travelling to another fantasy world. I am disappointed because I thought the casting was great going into the film, and they weren’t really that impressive in the end.

I’m going to continue on with the books, as I enjoyed the first two far more than that film.

I read the series when I heard about filming starting for the movie and the hype around it. Seemed like a cool series to get into.

I just watched the movie yesterday with some trepidation after seeing reviews. I almost didn't want to see the movie. However, after watching it, I'm actually kind of satisfied with it. I was disappointed with the lack of inclusion of many parts in the book, like the king and some major characters. But, I could absolutely see how they were trying to adapt a lot of situations from the books into easily digestible segments in the movie. It wasn't bad for what it was.

That said, my wife hasn't read the books and she just couldn't get into it. She has a basic understanding of the story because I told her about it. But the pacing was terrible and there was little to no explanation of anything. The movie sits in a weird place where it doesn't make sense to people who haven't read the books, and is pretty far from what readers of the books wanted.

Nevertheless, I think it's better to read the books first, so at least you can kind of get what's happening in the movie.

The books aren't that long when u read them separately, like the first one (The Gunslinger) is about 200 pages. You can always take breaks in between, which I didn't but u could. The movie also left out some of the most important characters. U should probably read the Gunslinger and see how u like it.

That's because the series is over 30 books long, when you include all of the tangential novels: Insomnia, IT, Black House, WTKH, and so many more.

Definitely don't assume the movie has much true canon in it and your title almost ruine my experience (see what I did there?)
