Sleepless Delights
I lay puzzled
In blurred recollections
Of faceless names.
I drown in hollow echoes
That buzz and flicker tirelessly
Behind haunted eyes.
I toss and turn;
I pant and pace,
Trying to escape the head in which I lay.
I know the rhythm is pretty disjointed and off, I seem to be pretty shit at structure. I think the adverb 'tirelessly' disrupts the flow quite a bit... Also, I initially had 'behind puffed eyelids' instead of 'behind haunted eyes'... let me know which one you prefer. I thought 'haunted eyes' had a stronger effect, since this poem is about more than just sleeplessness. I guess the last sentence is also a bit clunky... Anyway, any criticism is welcome.
