At what rank is someone generally considered to be "good"?

Discussion

So I'm pretty new to Duel Links, been playing a bit under a month (26 days according to my profile). I just hit Gold 4, been playing ladder with a half-finished f2p Hammer Shark deck. I was just curious what the consensus was here on what rank constitutes a "good player" to most of you guys. Good is relative, of course. But at what rank do you think a player generally just kind of has a strong handle on the game mechanics and knows what they're doing?

To put it to a few examples, I'd say you start to hit that point of "good at the game" in around Plat in League of Legends and Diamond in Overwatch. Would Legend rank be a good comparison point here?

I thing Legend with a decent deck is enough to prove you are a good player. But you don’t have anything to prove to anyone. As long as you have fun that’s all that matters.

To be honest, there's no satisfying some people. Some users here rip even KoG players for getting there too late or not getting close to the minimum win number. In the end, it's about whether you personally feel accomplished.

That being said, high level metagame play starts at Legend. Up until then, you can get away with running anything you want, but once you get to Legend, you have to know your matchups well.

This is definitely the best answer to OP's question.

Thats really difficult to say in my opinion. Some people may be more skilled than others but play lower ranks because they have either really shit luck or just refuse to play meta decks. Theres not really a clear border.

Ranks don't translate to skill as much as they do in say CS:GO. As long as you have a capable deck, pretty much anyone can hit KoG.

Bronze 5 seems skillful enough.

You're wrong

It's rookie1 rank that seem skillful

Ranks dont mean much tbh

Man, honestly, climbing the ladder isn't hard as long as you know how to build a deck, so as long as you don't run a 30 card deck, most people will consider you to be good.

You're good as long as you have fun, the only way to consider someone truly good at this game is if they play at worlds or not, after all, anyone can play a broken deck and get to KoG if they put the time and effort to get broken cards, so at the end of the day the rank doesn't matter that much.

Everyone here could have attended (and probably won) world championships, but they all got realllllly unlucky or personally screwed by Konami with disconnects

It's incredibly hard to determine the "skill" a player has, good indicators would probably be "Numbers of wins needed for KoG", but even that is twisted with a deck like Cyber Angels catching everyone by surprise on day 1 of the ladder reset or people intentionally staggering their wins because they don't wanna farm for 100 wins at KoG rank.

You could also go by personal achievements in events like the upcoming KC cup or bigger community tournament results, but all of that is pretty hard to track and none of that is really usefull

I tell you what though, if this game lasts another year and has more KCC and worlds, these “top players” will have something to prove.

In order for them to gain and maintain their status, they absolutely have to do well in these official tournaments. They might get away with one, but not doing well at both will show that they got there with luck.

Game has changed drastically, though. During the last Final Qualifiers, the meta was a lot slower. Also, the disastrous WCS Finals was a result of Konami's terrible decision to force users to switch Skills if they won, which made it a rock-paper-scissors format.

King of Games in the first three days of the season. You will meet the best players here in Legend, in the first 3 days. If you can climb through them, you are good.

Platinum since its the staple in the Street Replays.

Legend 2.

I'd say Legend or Plat. But, at the same time I've seen some terrible players in Plat via street replays.

But again, even if you're a decent player if you don't have a good deck to back it up you can still lose to terrible players with better decks so as long as your not using a complete top tier meta deck and your still stuck in a low rank I'd say your a good player.

Ranks don't generally mean anything. I've played against KOG and Legend players that were completely terrible, but we're just playing an autopilot deck

while some skill is involved most of what being a “good” player in this game is just having the right cards and knowing their effects

I think player past Platinum4-5 or Legend1 is a "good player"

But you can consider yourself a good player as long you don't play 30 card deck and know how card effect works with their combo synergy
