Creatures of Love and Sorrow
My father had a heart of slate
Of brittle, fragile stone
Not full of hate, but void of patience
His own favourite child
Tears corroded him
Wore and reduced him
To next to nothing
Until he finally cracked
The unwept tears build within me
Collecting into an ocean
Of gentle, tender kindness
Virtually indestructible
