About fan games
(This paragraph is in response to a video of CryZENx's "The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time HD. Source)
I have mixed feelings about things like this. On one hand, it's a demonstration of really excellent workmanship on the part of the creator (though Unreal Engine does make accomplishing this result a LOT easier than it would be if he were rolling his own custom engine).
On the other hand, stuff like this creates a culture of dissatisfaction in regards to Nintendo's real products. People like to say "why doesn't Nintendo do stuff like this?" or "oh man, if a fan can make this, then Nintendo must be really lazy" which demonstrates that most people have no idea how game development works or have no understanding of the upsides and downsides of using engines like Unreal Engine 4.
CryZENx's OoT mockups (let's not call it an actual "game") are visually impressive in certain ways (and unimpressive in other ways), but given that they're nowhere near a complete and cohesive package, I have a hard time getting excited about things like this.
Frankly, I think Breath of the Wild is more visually impressive to me, because holistically, it just feels more cohesive and interesting. Realism is overrated. =P
