How Does Ripple Network Adoption Increase XRP Value?

So I see lots of articles on Ripple partnering with all sorts of established financial institutions. I see big names being associated with Ripple like Microsoft, Google, 100+ banks... but how does this actually translate into appreciation for the digital currency. Right now it feels a lot like:

1. Buy XRP
2. ???
3. Profit

Has some sort of implementation plan been discussed regarding how XRP will be integrated into the Ripple network and thus grow in tandem? *Forgive me if there are some technical misunderstandings here. This question simply reflects my current level of understanding based on what I've learned so far.
