CREATION
at first there was nothing is misleading:
at first there was dog and cat.
genderless, they ate biscuits and gravy
and toyed with one another
(through space pranks and other means)
until they got bored of their charades
and decided to create.
dog said "there should be somewhere to play"
and cat didn't see much wrong there
so dog's teeth enlarged and hardened
and that was rock.
cat said "i need my space" and sought to separate planes into plains
and dog was cautious but understood that everyone has their wants and needs
so cat's claws uprooted rock
and those were mountains.
dog said "i'm thirsty"
and cat also got thirsty sometimes
so dog's dimples concussed rock,
and dog's veins tore through mountains,
and dog's bladder spilled out into the newly minted world
and those were lakes, rivers, and seas.
cat said "i'd like to climb"
and dog, though thoroughly less dexterous, saw the fun in that
so cat's whiskers grew leaves and branches
and those were trees.
dog and cat loved their new world,
lonely as it was,
because they had each other
and the rocks and the trees.
