Excellent recap on the facts with a fairly neutral perspective giving voices to all sides. Good journalism.

Even though it's dead, will there still be a split and a coin created?

3
MinersFolly•

Yep, egos are too invested to back out. They also want to believe it will be a major disruption. Let baby have its rattle, it will be hilarious.

Can you explain this to a dumbass? I've tried to get it but can't. After this fork, every coin will be duplicated, under a new coin name? Say I have 1 BTC. After this fork I'll have 1 BTC and 1 B2X? Or do I somehow choose what I want my coins as, BTC or B2X? My crypto is on a trezor. How will this work? Will I have to connect my trezor and it will automatically split all of the coins?

4
glibbertarian•

Yes in theory but since 2X doesn't have replay protection it may not be safe to transact on either chain. Don't touch your trezor around fork time.

7
happydogbark•

Just to explain replay protection...

When you make a transaction to an address, you use your private key to approve this (which other people can check with your public key).

So if I sent money on S2X to another S2X account, someone could duplicate that. Which would send your BTC coin to a likely non existent address.

I assume as long as you have your private key that it doesn't matter when forks happen since you'll have the same amount of currency on the new fork?

You'll have coins on both chains. Andreas does a good job of explaining it here:

Yay! Free money for us and Bitcoin treks on!

It isn't dead untils it's over. I think believing it is dead already I'd dangerous. They want that.

7
Cryptolution•

Its not dead so long as miners continue to signal and intend to follow through. Likely a split, yes.

Just so we are speaking as clearly as possible, Bitcoin is not splitting. There will still be only 21*(10^6) bitcoin after B2X.

Segwit2x isn't dead. Not sure what people are talking about

It's dead by markets future

Agreed; and far better than Laura Shin's hack job yesterday.

This is a very easy one. We the users have to decide if our money is safer following the Bitcoin community developers (aka Core devs) or giving our private keys to these new wanabe banks Coinbase, Xapo and BitPay.

12
mmortal03•

Xapo hasn't added support for SegWit receiving addresses, either, have they?

1
sovereignlife•

Xapo is in fact using SegWit receiving addresses, as I just checked.

1
mmortal03•

Thanks for this info. Are they definitely SegWit addresses, or just multisig of some sort?

Ok. I'm a noob. I have 0.11 BTC in coinbase. I know I missed the deadline (10/23) a lot of people recommend to get my coin on a wallet so that I could take advantage of the fork. I don't totally understand why but anyways.

Should I now move my BTC to a wallet? Is there a smarter time to do it? (after coinbase gives me my gold)

And if I plan on just holding for 10+ years. Can I just keep my paper wallet safe and just wait?

1
jaumenuez•

A paper wallet is the best option if you wont need to move them for a long time. I don't know Coinbase's policy about bitcoin gold, sorry.

Thanks for your help.

It's a beautiful thing to see...B2X can't survive if it is known as "B2X". The whole point was to steal the BTC brand away from the community and begin the centralization process. Centralization is inevitable as the value of bitcoin goes up, but the NYA attempting to speed up this process, against the community's will, is clearly working against this phony hard fork (masquerading as an upgrade to bitcoin). Good riddance.

Remember, it's not dead until it's killed. All this article is saying is that S2X is showing up to the fork with much less value and supporters than originally anticipated. It doesn't mean it can be blown off or ignored.

Your title is widely inaccurate, and is completely and totally biased.

As for the article do at first glance to unsuspecting eyes is correct. The core of the problem is blockstream and it has been the major problem about 4 years now.

Those of use that have not diged deep enough its simply clear we need to stick with CORE ! but the truth is that your sticking with blockstream, aka AXA aka a big old school legacy fiat bank, that greatly benefits and negatives and or slowdowns which have already happened. Their grip will only grow more over time.

Of-course people will say, Tinfoil hat and so fourth, but the truth is the original bitcoin creator had a tinfoil hat on as well, because well you know he concluded because of what happened in 2008 with big banks and all. But I am not addressing people that "believe" that current bitcoin-core is pure and good. I am saying this to others that may see it as well, but do the future may be lost for bitcoin, it's certainly is not for crypto. What bitcoin glad in protection against this hostile attack is not lacking in DASH, it DAO structure is immune to this type of take offer. Please learn more about DAO like coins and cut your losses and start investing in those types of coins.

"the core development team, since they designed the software"

That's completely incorrect. No one in the current Core team designed Bitcoin.
