Good Studio Day

Had a really good studio day. I'm listening back to a track I f'd up mastering. . . . Well I didn't f it up. I just... It's been awhile since I've done this, so I accidentally combined tracks all into one, instead of three separate complete tracks. So I wound up just mastering it like that.

And it sounds great! Luckily I still have the original wave form and started working on another version.

Today was really low key and simple. We just did a bunch of vocorder and clean vocal tracks. 4 recordings to be exact. And I'll build the structure for the song probably off two of the recordings. We'll see. Basically just tick track, or low volume drums. Then we'll record guitar, bass, then drums last. This will help me spread out the distribution of the sounds in the radio recording. And, if we don't like it, I have the first recording I edited, which sounds really good. I'll cut that one down.

It just sounds really good. And we have a second song we're working on that also sounds really good. And although the vocorder really propels that forward, it's much simpler. Which means, I get a breather. AND, the guitar is much more full. So he gets to play a ton of guitar. If we rotate back and forth the complexity of what we're doing. Then that let's us each take breaks when we need them. Because after I do our first song on vocorder for 40 minutes live, I'll be wornout. Then I can switch to the second song. And he'll be wornout after 40 minutes of that one. But we'll still get the same presence. It sounds like what we're doing was created by a group of people, but it's just us two.

... I don't think he realizes how brilliant he is. I need to fluff him, or help him realize that. I know he wants a drummer.... but we really don't need one. And I don't know, maybe it'd be great having an electronic drummer. Maybe that person would fit right in. But, damn, our sound is really.... good. We went from sounding like crap doing covers [we weren't total crap, but there's a huge difference], to sounding like holy shit we found our sound. And I've always wanted to do electronica. I've just never had anyone who liked electronica.

Dear lord, I'm never going to sleep with this song we wrote. I'll probably windup up looping the finished recording and sleeping to it, if I do sleep at all. It just feels like that torque you get during a really amazing moment of dancing with a dance partner. Where you're on the music and flowing, and it feels like you're floating on clouds. Or moving through sound waves.
