Starfruit discussion/questions
Howzit growing! My starfruit tree started flowering for the first time in August. After the few falling off after being windy, I saw a couple that were brown on the top, which I think is because of rubbing on the bags I put on them. I picked them and tried one today. The taste was great! I was worried it wouldn't be good because it was an unnamed variety. Maybe I've only eaten mediocre starfruit, or maybe it's my personal bias because I grew them, but they were the best I've eaten. The only thing I didn't like was even if they were sweet and had a great flavor, they still had the chalky oxalic feeling in my mouth and it was slightly green tasting.
Will the oxalic chalky feeling go away if it stays on the tree longer? What about the green flavor? Do you know of any cultivars that have a strong sweet flavor without the chalky oxalic feeling or green flavor? I read the strong flavor varieties are chalky and the sweet ones are mild and bland.
