Hard shut down vs proper turn off for box mods?

Hey guys, quick question!

Ive always wondered this with my box mods; does it hurt in any way to hard shut it down by taking the batteries out without properly powering down the device?

Or should i be turning off the device and removing batteries afterwards. Does it mess up the chip or anything if i pull the battery straight out?

Any insight to the question is appreciated, thanks!
