Armor Reskinning? (Potentially Stupid Question)

Hi, guys!

I'm new to the Destiny Franchise and really happy to have found a game that both my BF and I like to play together. He's big into FPS and single-player-like games, I'm big into MMORPGs and shiny things.

Along those lines, the looks of my character are a thing that make me happy in a game.

I know about shaders in Destiny 2, but I'm wondering if there's a way to reskin armor pieces to look like other pieces?

I'll use GW2's wardrobe system as an example, since it's what I'm most familiar with. We're able to reskin any piece of armor we wear with the appearance of any other piece of armor that we've previously unlocked (by wearing it or dismantling it).

Does Destiny 2 have anything similar? I'd read that Destiny 1 didn't, but I'm hoping maybe that's changed. Tried searching the subreddit, but couldn't find an answer - I might be using the wrong words.
