After seeing the latest demo I really hope I get to play that space tramp I have always dreamed of being!
We have waited a long time for this game to come and when it finally do, I want to experience it in a way that give me the biggest emotional impression for the longest duration.
My main interest in the game is not gaining wealth, ships or a higher kill-count; it's to get an emotional experience akin to what you can get playing in a really good role play group.
I'm in on the cheapest starter pack, got a little spacecraft and all. But that's not how I want to start the game.
So from the very start of the game I hope I am able to donate everything I own, down to the Mobiglass if that's possible.
Owning nothing, I am now technically stranded on Arc Corp. It's my job to find a way off the planet. I am not hitching a ride with some stranger, God no, I've heard the stories! So my only choice would be to find work and earn some cash.
My first thought was to start a flight school aimed at beginners. I could teach them the ropes for a cheap fee and save the money for a ticket off planet.
Earning money will take some time, I'd gather. Tickets are not cheap, and starting players haven't got much money. And why would they even take flying lessons in a space game? I really hope there will be some way of earning money without a ship in the game. If worst come to shove I'll take the commute to the space hub to be a guide for people who need to find their way around. I refuse to beg!
Sleeping, logging off, would have to take place in some dark alley, not having the cash to find decent accommodation. Maybe I could crash in some bar, pretending to be drunk?
If I could find a like-minded soul, one who would play the game on the same terms, we could team up and discover new ways to earn some cash. Not everything has to be above board, you know.
While wasting weeks doing 'boring', menial tasks for miniscule rewards, akin to slaughtering boars in the woods, we'd hear strangers talk of grand adventures in places far, far away. Some of the more wealthy or generous travellers will offer us rides, cash and maybe even a ship, often for nothing in return. But they will all be turned down. "No hand-outs", as Pop often told us while growing up in the poor, but proud, district beneath the glistening lights and noisy traffic of Arc Corp.
The road to that ticket will be riddled with boredom. But oh boy, when that day finally arrives. When all that boring stuff compunds into one single moment of pure enjoyment, seeing that polluted old planet getting smaller and smaller, vowing to never return. Can't wait!
Getting off world for the first time will no doubt be an elevating experience for my character, giving him a whole new outlook on life and his place in it. Coming from meagre upbringings, where money were as sparse as parental love, to suddenly see missions rewarding thousands of spacebucks will no doubt lead to new ill-planned adventures, maybe even some which will test his morale courage in order to get closer to his newfound goal: To one day be the captain of his own ship.
But first order of business would no doubt be to find work on one of them shiny space ships, risks and old Pop be damned!
... We only have one shot to truly explore this world when it finally arrives. Why not make the most of it? :-)
