What was the reason for the USA wanting to invade Cuba and why did they want to kill Castro and Che Guevara?

I was going through some of the JFK assassination files and the one thing which really scared me was Operation Northwoods. Why did the USA and the CIA want to topple the Castro regime? I've never read about it as in the country where I live, they don't really teach anything about the Cold War.
