Play back skipping

I had been using VRV because CR was having serious quality issues a little while back, but recently swapped back due to VRV missing some subs causing me to have to guess at entire lines of dialog. but CR seems to love to start dropping frames after running for a bit any idea on how I could stop this from happening?
