Please don't ever let another student look at your code.

Not even for a second. An acquaintance of mine asked to see my code for a programming assignment, and I stupidly accepted. This was two weeks ago. He ended up copying nearly all of it, barely changing variable names, but keep the overall structure and spacing the same. My professor came forward and I confessed. Not only did I receive a zero for the assignment, but I also received an F in the course. More importantly, even on my first offense, I have been kicked out of the College of Engineering at my university, and there's very little I can do to get in. I've also got a mar on transcript that won't go away for 5 years, so I'm unable to transfer to other universities nearby, since they're in the same system as my current university. This same mark will now bar me from most top grad schools, not that it would matter since I'm not an engineering student, anymore. My (previous) 3.9 GPA is meaningless.

Sure, my life isn't over, but it sure as hell feels like it. Please, just say "no."
