Can someone actually give me good advice on how to survive freddy?

I've been playing this game since day 1, and I feel that with his powers his so OP and change the way you're suppose to play the game, which is fine and all but I have been genuinly struggling to survive with him as the killer. As when I try and hide, he runs off and then sees my aura and runs straight back to kill me. Like any suggestions on tactics or perks?
