Does Acetyl L-Carnitine ferment and is it dangerous to consume?

I have an opened but unused bottle of Acetyl L Carnitine, which appears to have fermented. I live in a tropical climate and humidity has cause the capsules to gel. It has a surprisingly powerful vinegar smell (something around 10-15% Acetic acid white vinegar, it's biting). Is it still safe to consume, or does it degrade into potentially toxic biproducts? Expired about 7 months ago. But I'd hate to let 120 capsules go to waste.
