Etrian Odyssey series play order for not your average beginner.

Hey guys I'm looking to play this series but I'd like to get a specific opinion after some fruitless research.

I have played Labyrinth of Touhou 2 which is apparently very similar to Etrian Odyssey, and I've played a bunch of JRPGs so I don't have any problems with being introduced to the new mechanics of this series.

Disregarding EO5, I'd like your opinion on what's the best order to play the Etrian Odyssey series, between Untold 1, Untold 2, 3 and 4, in terms of overall quality. It's ok if the difficulty isn't linear, I'm looking for a progression in terms of quality of life and game mechanics, where the next game I play doesn't have some nice improvements removed. Would the order be 3, 4, U1 and U2 like release order?

I hear that 3 is possibly the best game in the series so far (disregarding 5), would it matter that much that I'd wanna play 4, U1, U2 then 3?
