Is video thumbnails for Direct Stream/Transcodes ever coming to the Apple TV?

With the newer Apple TVs you can skip through/fast-forward Direct Play videos and get live thumbnails so you know where you are at, but for Direct Streams/Transcodes this doesn't work (the thumbnails are just black.)

I first thought this was a technical limitation of the Apple TV, but there is another app, Air Video TV (known as Air Video HD on the phone/iPad), which handles this perfectly and it's really fast too at it.

So, is Plex ever gonna get updated with this or should I start converting all my content from MKV files to MP4 files, and mux in the external .srt subtitles (make them mov_text/tx3g format) so all my content is direct play? Since most, if not all my stuff, is H264 and AC3 or AAC audio it wouldn't take too long, but I don't wanna start doing this and then Plex gets updated and it was all moot.
