How is "explain" used correctly in passive?
I am not a native speaker so the following usage of explain in passive is really confusing for me. I couldn't find anything about it online so i wanted to ask if both of these are correct:
Sentences 1:
The subject was explained to Hans. -> This means that someone explained the subject to Hans.
Sentence 2:
Hans was explained the subject. -> This also means that someone explained the subject to Hans.
This confuses me because the subject is what is described and in the next sentence the subject is the target of the explanation. Could you please tell me, if both or only one are correct?
