Nameless midnight????

So I played through the campaign on destiny 2, 3 times, once with every class. I didn’t get nameless midnight because I didn’t know it was good (played through very early on, yes I’m a noob). I deleted my warlock cause I thought I’d play through it again to get nameless midnight. I haven’t got any exotics so far (the ones you get as you progress through the story), only blues. Does that mean I won’t get nameless later on (I know it’s a legendary).

Please tell me I haven’t completely wasted my time!
