Buying multiple moons from the store?

My brother and I have both been able to buy multiple moons from the Cap Kingdom store. Ive bought 11 and he has bought 20. Does anyone know if there is a cap or can you really buy unlimited moons? I can't imagine nintendo doing that but we dont want to spend all our coins checking for a cap.
