SteelSeries Apex M500 vs CM Storm Quickfire XTi.
Making the final decision before buying a keyboard. Choosing between Steelseries Apex M500 and CM Storm QuickFire XTi. First time mechanical keyboard buyer, a lurker to this sub.
Important points has been bolded out
I can't stray away from full-sized, I find myself using numpad and arrow keys very often. I tried using my friend's Razer Blackwidow TE and I have attempted to press the enter key at the numpad way too often than I should. I have a budget, under RM500(118$). The Apex M500, Qucikfire XTi and Ducky One were contestants, but Ducky One is slightly harder to find here and I feel like the backlit is too dim.(:p sorry) I'm looking for solid blue backlit and do not require RGB.
Overall, the two have very similar features. Backlit, macro, lighting effects, same switch(planning on getting MX reds) and solid overall construction. The Apex M500 for me is priced at RM455(107$) while Quickfire XTi for RM399(94$)
The advantages IMO of the Apex M500 is: cable routing and application for programming.(A huge upside to me) The advantages IMO of the Quickfire XTi is: removable cable, more accessories like keycap puller and it seems to be more favored for the build quality.
If the Apex M500 has no program macro, I'll use Quickfire XTi without a doubt. I do not use macros etc very often, but when I do I much rather do it in a program than on keyboard, I just personally find it more convenient for me. But I wonder if it is worth compromising for the extra accessories and removable cable.
Final disclamer: No matter how hard I try to deny it, I am admittedly slightly BUYERS towards the SteelSeries brand mainly because of the Qck+ and their sponsorship with Evil Geniuses, my favorite team.. I personally enjoy aesthetics a lot and find the font on the Apex M500 more attractive than the ones on Quickfire XTi and finally, I sincerely prefer program customization instead of on keyboard customization. Just feels more "right" to me.
