Resenting my replica
I'm gonna get to the point quickly, I am in a set of identical twins, I'm gay, my brother is straight. I've been out to my family ONLY. My family is super devoted to religion and they didn't take it well. It isn't that bad in a sense that they didn't kick me out and they're still funding me in med school but they're "praying" i get out of this "evil" SMH. Anw, I'm not gonna talk about how i came out, i did that in a previous post. The problem here is MY TWIN BROTHER.
Well, it's been 2 years since i came out to my family and i think it's a long enough time to process that info. I at least expected my twin brother to be somewhat understanding. I mean, we both are in medical school, he is a man of science and i could feel his cognitive dissonance with religion. Someone who knows enough science can directly tell that religion isn't (at least entirely) true. Yesterday, i was feeling down and he asked me why. I told him "do you really want to know?...I'm tired of being alone". He started telling me how he felt better after he broke up with his gf and that i didn't miss out on anything. To which i replied "at least u got to experience that... I'm 21 and still haven't done anything".... He then tells me that he doesn't wish me to share stuff with him relating to that subject and that he feels sorry for mum and dad because they're enduring the best they can. And i was like WHAT ABOUT ME? Am i the evil guy in your story? You side with mum and dad and cannot seem to have the slightest desire to defend me? He then proceeds to tell me that they are the victims here and that he cannot accept and will be sad whenever i get a bf.
This got me thinking, i thought blood is thicker than water, but blood is running thin so fast. I'm gonna have to stay with him in med school for 4 years... That means he will be there watching, judging, probably reporting to my parents anything fishy. I used to love him a lot but now all i harbor is resentment... He's my twin and we shared a bond like no ordinary siblings can. But now what's the use of building a relationship that is bound to be doomed. I don't want to build my emotions on pillars of salt. He's like golden shackles... He might be golden... But he still is shackles. Not to forget that, for my parents, my straight twin brother is "proof" that the reason that i am gay is a choice not a fact and that i can change that whenever i truly want... And for that i also resent him.
I don't know how to deal with this. It's not healthy to harbor hatred for someone who lives under the same roof as you. I mostly hate him because i had high hopes he'd understand unlike my old school parents. Any gay twin out there that can relate? I really need insight on that one.
