Oh god, I just remembered the TV series Legend of the Seeker. And they are not pleasant memories.

show

I loved the Sword of Truth novels. I really do. Read the whole series a couple of times. And when they announced a TV series based on the first book, man, was I excited.

Then it actually came out and Legend of the Seeker had me banging my head against the wall.

The writing actually made me angry. It honestly felt like they just went through the first book, page by page, saying "Change this. Keep this. Cut this. Cut this. Drop this.". They cut out and changed so many aspects of the story that not only was it impossible for them to use the original ending, it was impossible for them to even go on with the rest of the series - One of the most important scenes in the entire book was so heavily altered that it lost all significance. The protagonists' entire relationship was defined by a couple of key scenes, all of which were omitted. People kept finding and using all these powerful magical artifacts and every time, it was "found it in a cave". They ended up introducing characters that didn't exist until seven or eight books down the line. Heck, after all of their edits, the book's theme doesn't even apply any more.

God dammit, the actor they picked for the villain was word for word the opposite of how he's described in the book.

I don't understand how they could have dropped the ball so !@#$ing badly. Ugh... Just ugh.
