Display and shared memory in graphics card

I have a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 graphics card and windows 10 OS. In dxdiag it says that the card has 6062Mb approx. total memory, 2017Mb of that is display and 4044Mb is shared. What does that mean? Is there a way to increase performance if i increase display memory? And could there be any problems arising from that?
