Can I make a fluffy, savoury (yeasted?) cornbread?

So I'm not too experienced in baking bread yet.
I've been trying to make a cornbread that is more breadlike and less cakelike than the traditional American recipe. I've found some recipes, but it keeps coming out too dense for my taste, with a structure akin to sourdough. Is there any way for me to get a cornbread that is more airy and light?
