Is anyone else extremely disappointed in the modern day?

The modern day just seems completely useless, not substance to it at all, nothing to do, no major plot points, no first civ information. I think they was trying to go for an AC1 style MD but completely whiffed, at least AC1 had that mysterious element that kept you engaging wanting to know more, its nonexistent in Origins.
