ExpressVpn on new firetv 4K 2017

Just set up my firetv and as I travel a lot internationally I want to set up VPN on it. I already have a paid subscription to ExpressVPN, sideloaded the app, and got it up and running. But there is now an issue:

When I connect the vpn, while the app shows connected, Netflix stops buffering at 25% when I tel it to play something, and then says content not available. Amazing home screen also says home screen not available yet and when I disconnect vpn it works again.

At hone I have vpnexpress mediastreamer but can’t do the router set up on the road at hotels, so is there a way to set up the dns directly on firetv? I don’t see an option.
