Why no sim free version of iPhone x on apples website?

Right now it shows only career models for the x, with no sim free option. The 8 on the other hand even before pre orders opened showed the sim free version. Does it mean the x will have the typical 2-3 month lag before a sim free version is out? Ordered an 8, but now wondering if an x is better, maybe I can wait a month, but I don't want to wait 3-4 months for a new phone.
