Help deciding on 2nd hand MSI laptops (GS40 / GS60)
Managed to find 2 2nd hand deals on the MSI GS40 & GS60 and need help deciding between them.
Don't plan to stick around and wait for 8th gen processors since my laptop will be plugged in at home 95% of the time. The reason why I'm going the 2nd hand route is because money is tight (just got married) and I seldom game, though I would like the option when I finally get some time in. Titles like Shadow or Mordor / Doom.
Main use will be day to day productivity and bringing it out when I travel overseas for work. Battery life is important (gaming laptops aren't great for these I know), along with noise & heat.
GS40 ($800 USD)
i7-6700HQ
16GB RAM
1TB + 128GB SSD
GTX 970m
GS60 ($950)
i7-6700HQ
16GB RAM
2TB + 256GB SSD
GTX 970m
4k display
I'm kind of leaning towards the GS40 since I'm not a fan of numpads which make everything feel off center. However the GS60 has a bigger display but if I game I'll probably hook it up to my external display. Size wise I use a 14" HP EliteBook 840 as my daily driver at work and my current Asus laptop is a 14", so I'm not sure how the transition to 15.6" will be. TB3 would be nice but from what I read TB3 support on these models is really iffy / non-existent.
Ideal laptop would be the Gigabyte 14 but that's way more money than I want to spend on a laptop.
