She apologised this morning

Update to my other post, titled 'Why did I do this twice?' tl;dr ex girlfriend and I broke up twice and both times she lashed out and accused me of being awful to her.

This morning I got a text from her that said this:

I'm sorry i yelled at you yesterday. I was angry because of the way you broke up with me, not because of the breakup itself. I don't want our relationship to end on such an awful note if I can help it I've had a good time, I don't regret it and I hope we can still be friends

I replied:

I appreciate the apology, and I'm genuinely sorry for the way I did it. But I don't think I can be friends. I don't think I can conduct a healthy friendship with you. I can't keep healthy boundaries. I don't want either of us to hurt each other again. I had good times too, I don't regret it either, but this is where I'm at. I'm sorry.

Her reply:

Okay, that's totally fine. Tbh, by friends I kinda meant like not enemies - you know I'm not good at staying friends with exes :') I'm gonna leave it up to you to unfriend on facebook or whatever, feel free to set whatever boundary you need. Good luck with your interview on Monday, and I genuinely hope things go well for you.

(we'll pretend I hadn't already blocked her on Facebook - haven't quite worked out how to fully block numbers on my phone)

I wished her well back. That's for the best, I think. I'm glad she apologised, because it means I'm not going to just stew in anger about her never realising her side of things. That said the fact she only apologised for 'getting angry', and not the content of the hurtful shit to me made me raise an eyebrow.

It's a good step for me to have explicitly said where I'm at I think. My mum wanted me to let her down easy and be non-committal but I wanted to state that I wasn't up for this. If I hadn't found this subreddit I think I'd be back on her merry go round again trying to make up for my "mistakes".

It's hard not to want to scream at her for hurting me but that'd be a) pretty immature b) acting like her and c) it would fall on deaf or defensive ears, anyway. Better I work out how to trust my gut better in the future.
