I just heard I need to wait another year for hormones, don't know how to handle this
First off, I'm MtF, 20 yrs old. currently studying. I'm not depressed or anything, and have plenty of supportive friends and family to help me through tough times. However, I've been struggling with my whole AMAB gender, and how I just want to express myself more feminine. So after the discovery about a year and a half ago, I started looking for a therapist, I found one that is super good for me so far (been seeing her for 9 months now), helping me explore what feels good for me and how to tell people about it, and how to best respond to certain reactions and stuff. Now in the Netherlands, where I live, there is this center for gender related issues, called the VUmc, where they can actually prescribe hormones/ do operations and stuff. So I applied to get in there, since I discovered that I am more happy living as a girl. The waiting lists are quite long tho, so after 5 months of waiting, 2 days ago I finally got an intake there, mostly administrative stuff.
Here's the problem: they told me that there is this whole procedure, first talking to a (yes, another) therapist, then some more waiting etc, all in all, before I could start hormones, probably a year will have passed by then. It's not a HUGE issue, because like I said, I have enough friends and stuff who accept me right now, regardless. But still. I don't know how to handle the next year. I don't hate my male body, not at all, I just hate the fact that my body doesn't look good in a dress for example. And that when I wear skinny jeans, feminine shirts and make-up, people look at me weird and still call me sir, and mister etc(that's how I've been dressing pretty much every day for the past 6 months or so) I've never been good with expressing my emotions but I do feel that this is really bothering me. I don't want to go through another year of weird stares. Right now I've been ignoring them because, so I thought, in a couple months all that is going to change, guess that was a terrible estimate. But I also don't want to go back to dressing more masculine, because that just doesn't feel right. I have to do that for work every Saturday. Feels like I have to take a step back every week. I just want to look ánd feel good you know.. So I don't know. I don't really know where I'm going with this :p I just wanted to get this off my chest, and hopefully get some helpful comments on how I can best get through this next year. Because it feels like I have to like pause my life for a year now. And that just feels bad. I've just never been good with this long-term thinking.
Oh, also, I don't want to get hormones illegally or via internet or anything. However, here's a weird thought: is there things that I could do to "enhance" female qualities or something during this year? For one thing I'm going to practice my feminine voice. But maybe there are also work-outs that train more feminine features? Or diets that help with this stuff or something? I don't know, I guess I just want progress during this year. To keep my mind off the long waiting.
