Look how flexible my solar panels are!
Just thought I'd show off my flexy panels. Just kidding, it's not a celebration.
So the idiots who did a lot of work on my truck did everything wrong. They put 2 flexy panels up, drilling lots of holes in my fragile roof when they should have just used adhesive. The rear panel hasn't gone flying yet, but today the front one had its front screws not hold and it was just being held on by the back screws (their adhesive didn't work, apparently). It was flapping away, so I pulled over and assessed the damage.
The reason it caught the wind is because they made the panel overlap the front of the box (it's a box truck), so wind hits the box, goes up and hits the small panel lip. Over time this put pressure on the screws as the panel must have been trying to fly off since day one. Well today it succeeded.
On Monday I have it booked in with someone else to install another panel, and to test these 2 old panels as I was paranoid one wasn't working properly. Hopefully they can test them well enough and let me know if this one is fucked or not. I'll be pissed if it is, these flexy panels are £220.
I hate my truck sometimes, but not all the time. What I do hate is the bunch of idiots who worked on my truck in the first place. No point going back there, they'd deny it and I'm leaving the country for my European tour as soon as my logbook comes back (had to change stuff on it).
So yea, I'm pissed, probably going to have to throw a few more hundred at my truck, but I'll soon be an unemployed, hobo in a truck touring Europe!🙂
Until Monday I'll see if I can just Park in this layby, then I'll drive the last 20 miles to the shop with duct tape forming a windbreak (hopefully) so the panel doesn't try flying again!
https://imgur.com/a/RSxCb feel free to guess if it's totally useless or not!
