Career and Identity crisis

Hello everyone, this is just some career related identity crisis I am going through at the moment which is a bit hard to resolve on my own.. I have been trying really hard to get a job in this big oil company for almost 3 years now to no avail.. I missed out in the end each time because I lost motivation as soon as the big examination day came nearer and nearer.. Not only motivation but I lacked even a bit of short term focus and ended up day dreaming all the time about what would the job be like if I get there. Eventually nothing happened as I missed out on cracking the exams by few marks each time.. I ended up doing some soul searching and decided I wasn't very motivated because I actually never liked the subject in the first place and just focused on the money factor.. After a lot of sessions with my career counselor I found that I am well suited in the field of humanities and made up my mind to pursue counseling psychology. I am still in the process of applying for the courses and I am really apprehensive and excited about this career transition.. Yet when I see my course mates from the previous stream achieve and get the exact job that I so coveted back then, I really end up with a diminished mood and envy for those who achieved what I couldn't.. Although I reached in and recalibrated my actual needs and motivations, I cannot let go of my desire for cracking the competition. This is affecting my long term focus and making me feel demotivated temporarily. A little help please? Need to get my priorities sorted.
