Looking for my first hunting rifle

So I just killed my first deer this week with a borrowed rifle. Wow, I couldn’t believe what an exhilarating experience it was! Now I’m looking at a Ruger American or a Savage Axis 2 in .308, but I’m open to different rifles and calibers. The Mossberg Patriot also looks good.
