Can we talk about what vaporware is?
I've been a big fan of vaporwave music, art, and it's offshoots for years now, and I've noticed a pretty significant shift in what people think "vaporwave aesthetics" are in the past year or so, especially in the previous few months. Vaporwave is a commentary on the use of power and money in big corporations, like the huge malls of the 80s and 90s and focussing on the aesthetics of those times, as well as how things have changed or how things have shifted in directions the people of 20 or 30 years ago wouldn't have expected.
A main component of these aesthetics are the colors, which are the pastel blues, pinks, and whites that are so recognizable in this genre. However, I think that the main part is on how these colors are used in advertising and surrealism or how these images are used to go with the music of the same name.
This image is cool because it can be interpreted as a longing to escape from the corporate world that so many people are trapped in. This is just a picture of a sunset that has some pink and blue in it. It's a nice picture and I think it's worth sharing, but I don't really think this is the right subreddit for it.
What I'm trying to get at is that vaporwave isn't just just some specific colors and blurry images of busts. Maybe I'm being too critical of the sub, but I think that the aesthetic has kind of lost touch with where it came from.
I've never created any content for this sub, so maybe I'm part of the problem too, but this is me taking a step to improve the quality of the sub beyond just upvoting and downvoting.
Edit: I spelled stuff wrong.
