Honestly, I'm not a fan of the Keyboardio, but damn.... that's a good company! I hope they keep that quality of communication!
A+
Proprietary keycaps and one color option... at least it has dat rgb.
They'll also have translucent keycaps, so that makes it two colors? :)
The keycaps may be unique, and not easy to replace, but they feel wonderful. I'd trade my ability to change caps for that feel any day. Oh, wait. I did. No regrets.
(I've been using a prototype as my daily driver for about two months now, if not more)
Honestly seems like a crappy kinesis advantage with a really nice (though needlessly bulky) wooden case.
I'm totally down with new stuff like this but some of the choices just didn't sit well with me.
Wooden built in wrist rest that adds to the foot print
Custom sculpted keys with no real way to replace them with something else if I don't like them
Semi fixed tenting angle which may not work for everyone
Matias switches (not necessarily a pro or a con, but at that price range I'd like some flexibility)
I'm glad for those that it works for but yea, no way I'll pay that much given all the issues I personally have with it.
Yeah i mean that wood looks good now, but after a couple of years of constant palm contact, there is going to be some staining.
Semi fixed tenting angle which may not work for everyone
The keyboard has camera mount holes, so you can come up with some pretty crazy tenting solutions. There is a thread about these on the keyboardio forums, and there are some pretty wild ideas and solutions. The tenting is only semi-fixed if you limit yourself to the stands that ship with the keyboard, but you don't have to limit yourself like that.
I mean... https://twitter.com/keyboardio/status/779688585070989316 is pretty darn crazy, and is a perfect example how wild you can go with custom mounts.
But see that's what I mean. For 300+ for you to then have to buy a sorta custom/hacky mounting system or Fab your own is sorta crazy in my opinion. I'm glad it has the option for people to go crazy and I definitely look forward to seeing some of the outrageous solutions but for me personally it's a no go given the other issues I have with it.
It's still the best tenting solution available for any keyboard, regardless of price. Because this allows you to go crazy, while still providing a reasonable default. Everything else I've seen - not counting DIY stuff, which you can do here too - were far inferior. As far as split keyboards go, the ErgoDox EZ and the Kinesis Freestyle Edge are the only two, commercially available keyboards that provide any kind of tenting. Both of those offer similar limitations as the Keyboardio's stands, but without the custom mount option, and both of them are in the similar price range as far as I recall.
Your other reasons for considering the Model01 a no-go are perfectly understandable (I disagree with them, but hey, we're different!).
Yes, but where do the mirrors mount! /s

THAT is how you do communication.
