Olympics is incredibly strict, unreasonably so. They even banned the 'Hockey Canada' logo from the Canadian Hockey team.
So this means IEM will pay for every travel expenses from the players ?
It is listed on the qualifier's page, a qualified player will have all travel and accommodation expenses paid:
Scroll down a bit and check the "Prize" section.
I'm a gold player, so I don't even check those conditions to be honest.
Thanks for pointing me these pieces of informations, I've learnt something today.
No worries, could you answer something for me? The fact that you didn't notice this at first sight worries me that all the information on our platform is not quite visible, and may be presented in a confusing way.
Is this the case for you?
Everybody else that can provide an input on the ESL Play platform, feel free to answer.
I didn't open the page, so I couldn't see this info :-)
I've always thought that the CIO paid the national federations for their expenses during Olympic Games, but as there are no official federations for esport, I was wondering if players' expenses would be taken care of.
I just checked the page and it appears clearly that everything will be taken care of, so no worries on your side.
or their countries will haha?
Any ideas why they have such a rule?
I am guessing it's the Olympic thing right? Where you are supposed to represent your country. Plus that sweet IOC cash.
Its an a sponsor put on exhibition for the IOC. They follow strict rules about advertisement that only Olympic sponsors can be shown on anything related to the Olympics.
Wait, what IOC cash? I remember people talking about a meeting, but I never heard what came of it. I didn't know the Olympics sponsored anything outside the actual Olympics.
Well it's in collaboration with the Olympics, so I am just assuming they share at least some sponsors and as such share sponsorship terms
Oh, that's pretty cool. I'll have to try to find out more about it. Sounds like a pretty big deal.
Ouh right, I forgot about that.
Becuase its tied, at least partially, into the Olypmics. And the Olympics still hasnt realised the reason they aren't growing as mucha s they want, isnt becuase people dont like athletics, but because there not letting enough money into it.
What will be funny is when/if esports actually gets in the olympics properly at any point, and any esport featured has awful production compared to every other event for that esport in the year.
it's the only downside of course, but the lack of sponsorships from outside Olympic ones means esports will probably never be that good in the olympics, at least for a good while, becuase none of the Olympic sponsors are going to care about it.
well then I guess also russian players are fucked
The Olympics are very strict on making sure only IOC sponsors are featured at events. I assume the same reasoning is behind this decision.
Yes, and it's one of the most controversial things in athletics.
This isn't an Olympic event though.
Man, fuck the IOC!
