Seriously all the cases are garbage. Nothing has a decent kickstand like the Surface’s. The closest I’ve seen is the Logitech Slim Combo but 1) it’s $150 and I don’t need the keyboard 2) I’ve read bad things about the build quality. I just want a half decent kickstand for my thousand dollar tablet but apparently that’s too much to ask for

I have a SP4 and Air 2 and a Mini 4. The beauty of the SP4's hinge is the very wide # of angles it can be used at. It's one of my favorite features of the device to be honest. Like OP, I'd love a kickstand / case that is simply a hinge like the SP4 has already.
Yeah I originally chose the OG iPad Pro 12.9 over the SP3, because the Apple Pencil is just so good, and iOS had a lot more promise for what I needed than Windows.
But goddamn that surface stand is sexy.
FWIW I have the Slim Combo on my 10.5 iPad Pro. I love it — largely for that kickstand and the keyboard. I think I paid under $90 for it 2 or 3 months ago at a local Best Buy.
I don't have a kickstand case, but I have an adjustable stand I rest my Pro 12.9 on. I thought a case with a kickstand would make an already-heavy tablet even heavier (in my case, anyway).
So I have a very slim case on my ipad and I use this adjustable stand on my desk. It's not the most attractive but it gets the job done. https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01FYO0KJC/
Just ordered this keyboard that comes with a kickstand for my new 10.5 inch pro. Arriving on Friday and a good deal. Hopefully it holds up.
