I think this is good for subreddits like r/niceguys or r/ihavesex when on roaming data. Viewing pictures consumes more megabytes than plain text.

Well on the official app yes, but that app is bad compared to other ones. Boost is the one I use and has a compact mode that doesn't automatically load load pictures when opening the post. It also has an option to disable previews.
