SnG short stack bubble play..

I have a question about playing short stack...well any stack size tbh.. when there are 4-5 people left in a full ring SnG, is there ever a time we should be calling a shove ahead of us? Does it make a difference if there are 4-5? Is it largely dependent on how many other short stacks there are? A link to any resources on the topic would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi Cappei, you need to learn about ICM to understand this element of SnGs. You will find in the later game getting double the amount of chips doesn't directly translate to getting double the amount of money.

Playing attention to your opponents and trying to learn their shoving ranges lets you play optimally so this will factor into what you should be calling.

It is generally stated it is better to be shoving with a marginal hand that it is to call with one.

Hope this helps a bit.

This makes sense, and I am aware of ICM. I guess I really need to study it more/at all. Just feels like a +chipEV is a lot of times a -$EV. Which I guess is where ICM comes in..

That is it really. It is just something that has to be done. I promise you as well, having a solid end game strategy will allow you to be a profitable low stakes player for sure. If you didn't make to many mistake <20bb you would beat them well for an alright ROI and then it is just a matter of volume.

If you want to see a extreme example of a SNG don search the poker goals and challenges thread on 2+2 for jdawg91/slayerv1fan and read his different stories and see his graphs they are just insane.
