Ads. Too many ads. Never got to the content.
Short version: Semi-truck decided that "don't drive into cement pillars" was just a suggestion, and now they have to keep the bridge closed until it's repaired. Lots of hand-wringing about it needing four years, but my money is that some other project is gonna get screwed to pay for the repairs early.
Shit like this is why third party liability minimums need to be higher, you crash your truck into a bridge you/your insurance should pay for it, not the taxpayers if/when funding becomes available
Sounds like Millet is at least exploring the idea of going after the company. Of course, most of the insurance is probably going to the dairy company to pay for the lost product, I'd guess.
The lost product would be paid from a separate clause than the 3rd party liability. Not sure if truckers are required to have more liability than passenger cars, but the limits are far too low (minimum $200,000 for passenger car)
The product damaged is probably a 5 digit number. Not even a factor in their insurance.
For commercial definitely.
Commercial vehicle insurance is for the whole fleet and is pretty huge, scaling with the size of the fleet. Insurance is one of the largest costs for transport companies. You can bet there is a lot more going on than this article lets on. Was mid/upper manager and safety manager for mid-size truck transport company for a few years.
pretty much. Province is cutting back on capital projects. Some other road project just dropped pfff the funded list.
They might have a contingency fund as well.
Thanks. Thats pretty grim.
Well, the driver survived (and is already out of hospital), but from the picture it looks like the truck and trailer are toast. Arguably the bridge got the worst of it.
a new level of "spilt milk"
