I don't want to see young people who weren't of voting age picking veg, I want to see the Brexit voting "immigrants are stealing our jobs" brigade out their grafting.

Hmm. I don't really like the idea that British people are lazy because they are bad at doing a job they aren't trained to do/aren't expecting to do in their life. I think it misses the point. It's a fact that most of our generation isn't dependent on manual labour in life nor is expecting to do it. If a typical Eastern European migrant worker was asked to do a coding job for the day, it would be stupid to call them lazy if they didn't write any working functions (assuming this person didn't secretly have a degree in Computer Science of course!).

We are lucky to be in a wealthy country, but it doesn't mean we should accept zero hour contracts or stagnating wages alongside reduced social security just because other countries less fortunate than us are in a worse position.

A more interesting and revealing documentary might be to see how new British fruit pickers fair who take up the work voluntarily.

I suppose it is nice though to reveal the typical lives of migrant workers who so commonly are ignored.

It would be quite an easy documentary to make because there are thousands of them doing it in Australia right now for around twice the wages they would get in the U.K. I was one of them and the conditions of rural Australia are a lot harsher than here.

Make the wages £15 an hour and you'll get plenty of pickers, I'd even consider it for a spell, but when it's paid the same/less than every other job and the other jobs are easily available, it's no wonder people say it's not worth it. If you want to sell your ability to work hard physical labour in this country, working in a field for minimum wage is a poor choice, be hod carrier, bricklayer or construction labourer and you'll get much better pay, job satisfaction and career progression. English people do jobs that are as hard or harder regularly, they just won't do it for minimum wage and no career progression.

Thats an awful example, those uni kids or the resturant worker probably cant code either unless they are studying it.

Like its manual labour, the only skill it requires is to not be a bitch, everyone should be able to do basic manual labour.

You’re supporting my point, you need training and experience to do a job properly. You’re right, that applies to the participants in the video too.

I think you’re wrong in your second point though, only people who have training and experience are good at jobs, including doing ‘basic manual labour’. Like the video showed, the migrant workers were picking 10 times faster, they have a skill.

Except it doesnt always take training and experience. Sometimes its just hard work, which the kids arent used too.

Every single task requires training & experience, hell even your mum had to teach you to eat with a spoon.

the reality is is that these kids bodies have not been condition for long hours of manual labour, nor have they learned how to actually do the jobs with efficiency. it'll take time for them to get up to a comparable level of job performance.

So you’re saying worker productivity doesn’t go up based on experience? That everyone’s output depends on how lazy they are?

Have you ever done manual work?

Eastern Europe has some excellent software houses to be fair.

This made me spit tea all over my computer, if we remember right this was the very reason we needed cheaper Labour from Europe in the first place was it not . "To do the jobs you lazy brits will not do!"

This is now 2018, and look what it has become? Amazon is like a cluster of spaceships that have landed all over the UK yet they hardly employ any english labourers at all.

I could take you to three Amazon warehouses right now that are over 90% ran by European workers and this is not because "You Brits are lazy" it's because Amazon like a lot of major blue chip companies in the UK have an agenda , and it's mainly to do with tax avoidance.

Not to mention that they pay people wages far too low for our citizens to live on. The migrant worker doesn't need to deal with British prices, instead they earn wages 5 times the purchasing power of their native lands. If you paid me or anyone else £40 an hour we might be a bit more enthusiastic at scrubbing toilets and harvesting fields.

Which is the reason landlords in my town are off to Dubai 3 times a year. You have never seen so many houses converted into £40 a week bedsits. Some landlords are getting over a thousand pounds a month for a £80k house (yes it's cheap where i live) They even convert the kitchens and dining rooms and turn them into bedsits- they are cramming these people in because 'us lazy brits' won't do the jobs! (yeah right)

If somebody offered me 5 times the wage in another country to go and work for them and allowed me to send the money back home-well i wouldn't be converting my home into bed sits would i, my kids wouldn't be getting 4 different supply teachers ether they would be going to private school.

I have an idea that might just save this country an absolute fortune, I think we are paying far to much money to MP's in this country to get the job done so how about we make them all redundant and replace them with Polish or Romanian MP's.

I fucking hate programs like this, they're apologising for all the shitty things that companies do to EU migrants in this county in addition to demonising our own citizens as lazy and unproductive. I don't see how roll playing the aftermath of a successful Soviet invasion solves anything.
