PSA: Regarding Elemental Attack Skills
So, something I haven't really seen any notes or information on is regarding the skills that boost elemental attack, (IE: Ice Attack, Fire Attack, ect), that you can get from certain pieces of armor or decorations. I did a bit of testing regarding how these skills affect different weapons, using the training area and testing with various weapons, including different weapon types, and using Ice Attack gear and gems. I've come to the the conclusion that these skills only work when using weapons of the corresponding element. In the case of bowguns, it only affects ammo of the corresponding element. Also for Insect Glaive users, these gems provide no benefit to your kinsect's damage, even if they are attacking with the corresponding element....
This means these skills provide no benefit to your damage unless your weapon also uses the same damage type. So what does this mean for builds? Basically that unless you use a weapon of the same damage type as the element you're enhancing, this skill is a wasted equipment/decoration slot. For bowgun users, it also means that this skill only has the potential to affect a single type of your ammo, so it's vastly a wasted skill slot. Beyond all that, it's worth mentioning that at least on elemental weapons, the elemental attack power has a "cap" that it will hit when it's buffed up to a certain point beyond its initial amount.....
I'm not sure if all of this is common knowledge and I just haven't seen it mentioned, or if no one even bothers using elemental decorations or equipment, but I figured it was worth testing and getting the information out there. I know that prior to this, I had been guilty of wasting spare decoration slots on elemental decorations that didn't match my weapon's damage type, and I doubt I'm the only one. It's something to consider for when you're looking at armor or decorations that have these skills, in conjunction with the weapon you are using......
