Heart of the Willow
Heart of the Willow
Talking willows
Speak in creaks and groans.
Dictating by essence
Woody tones.
Crying out for less and for more,
Satisfied only in silence
Lest the wind blow,
Stirring aching limbs
Bending and bowed.
Calling for matrons and
Lovers beneath root and earth,
To strengthen,
Give what they were.
For nature’s wrath,
Let love be pity.
The old willow stands
By the gift of many.
